San Francisco is very similar! it's extremely walkable and socializing there always leads to a new discovery, a hidden gem, or a fresh perspective on the city. I had the same reaction to downtown Chicago. Despite the city's reputation, it has a gorgeous downtown and is extremely pleasant to visit and walk around.
